For a long time, me and my sister wanted to make a trip to South Africa. We were looking for some adventure for ourselves. And last year we did! I had always wanted to see Cape Town.. Cape Town is a populous city in South Africa and located on the shore of Table Bay. The city is a famous tourist destination with many beautiful beaches, natural settings, architectural heritage, wildlife watching, and shopping opprtunities. We had a great time in Cape Town as we had expected!
The most prominent landmark of the city, Table Mountain was the first step for us. We used the cableway to reach the top of the mountain. The mountain offered the beautiful views of the city. Climbing up by the cableway was amazing.
Our next step was the Robben Island. About 12 kilometres from Cape Town, Robben Island was used as prison for nearly 400 years. It was the place of banishment, imprisonment and isolation. Nowadays, Robben Island is a museum, being an important sign of South African heritage.
Then we visited the Castle of Good Hope. It was said to be the oldest building in South Africa. Guided tours were available in the castle, so we joined one of them. There was also a traditional ceremony that you were lucky to watch.
My sister loves animals very much! Therefore, on the next day, we went to the Two Oceans Aquarium. It was amazing! We were both fascinated by the animals that we hadn’t seen before! There were over 3000 animals, including fishes, reptiles, mammals and birds. We watched them in front of the huge aquarium Windows and couldn’t help ourselves from watching for a few hours
Cape Town is also famous for its architectural heritage. There were many buildings in the style of Cape Dutch that combines the architectural styles of German, France and Netherlands. To view that magnificient architecture, we went to Constantia. It was a historical district in Cape Town. Constantia is well-known for wine. In the district, there were many beautiful houses and buildings in Cape Dutch style. We were fascinated!
We spent our last day to do some shopping. Greenmarket Square is one of the oldest markets in the city so we had a visit there. The market was huge and also inexpensive. It was funny to be there – a different place for us who were used to modern shopping malls. Then we went to V&A Waterfront which is a famous harbour in the downtown. There were many attractions, restaurants and shops. We had a great time there.
After such an amazing trip, it was hard to go back home for us but I hope we will go again.
