Rock formations are some of the many wonderful things that mother nature has given us. Lots of them—such as The Wave in Arizona, the Devil’s Marbles in Australia, or the Delicate arch in Utah—have been famous tourist attractions for ages, and continue to lure more visitors each year.


One of the best places to see amazing Rock are at Cappadocia in Turkey, a place graced with many breathtaking canyons, caves, hills, and rock formations. This is where you’ll still find traces of ancient civilizations and culture.

The longer time you have for exploring Cappadocia, the better. Try staying here for at least three days to see the full beauty of the place. These are some of the must-do activities and must-see places in Cappadocia:




There are so many underground cities in Cappadocia, but this is one of the most visited, because apart from its beauty, it’s also the deepest and biggest. This is one of Cappadocia‘s underground cities that you must not miss. It’s reported that the underground city of Derinkuyu was used as religious refuge as well as protection against invaders.



This Cappadocia town is famous for the “fairy chimneys,” natural rock formations and the Göreme Open Air Museum, where you could see painted cave churches carved from volcanic stone (don’t miss the amazing frescoes at the Karanlık Kilise and the Tokalı Kilise.



The Uchisar Cappadocia citadel is one of the best spots where you could get an amazing panoramic view of the whole region. When you’re here, don’t miss the Uchisar Castle. Also, Uchisar is amazing during sunset, so don’t forget to bring your camera!



Avanos is known as the “pottery town,” and visiting this place will give you a glimpse of how they make the beautiful pots. Go to Galip to see the process and perhaps make one for yourself as well!


Balloon trips

This is one of the best ways to really see all of Cappadocia. There are different balloon trips offered here, so you’ll have a choice of which one to choose. Balloon tours in Cappadocia begin at dawn, so you’ll need to wake up early. All of this will be worth it when you finally find yourself being on top of the unique rock formations.


There are lots of trails available in Cappadocia, depending on where you’re staying. A great place to hike is between the Goreme and Uchisar, where you’ll pass by amazing landscapes of amazing rock formations, caves, and cliffs.

Mountain Biking

Take the wheels throughout the town and explore it on your own pace. You can also choose to take a motorcycle ride to the hills!

Wine tasting

Aside from the magnificent surroundings, Cappadocia is also known as one of the top wine producers in all of Turkey. Visit the Turasan Wine Factory, where you can try a wide array of locally-made wine. Make drinking wine in Turkey as one of the most important must-dos here, for they certainly have the best flavors in the world.
