The breathtaking scenery nature offers is perhaps incomparable to none. What makes them even more interesting is the story behind the picturesque view, which is the case in Quilotoa Lake in Ecuador.
The mesmerizing beauty of the crater lake with its bright emerald waters somehow makes it hard to believe that such amazing sight was once the site of a tragedy when the volcano erupted violently many, many years ago. Today, all that remains is the crater lake’s enchanting beauty and extraordinary landscape.
Though the volcano is still considered active today, no activity has been recorded ever since, and the lake is actually open and safe for tourists to explore. Day trips are popular here where you can hike all the way to the crater lake to take a closer look. Only two buses per day go around the entire loop and there are some unpaved roads that you’ll have to pass to get there, which adds to the adventure itself.
