This day trip from Inverness is a great ‘taster’ for the Orkney Islands because in one day it takes in the main attractions including the remarkable Neolithic village of Skara Brae, the Churchill Barriers, Scapa Flow, The Ring of Brodgar, The Standing Stones of Stenness and The Italian Chapel.  There is also a stop in Kirkwall with the opportunity to see Kirkwall’s magnificent 12th century cathedral of St Magnus.

This tour from Inverness departs only in the summer.  Enjoy the drive from Inverness to the famous John O’Groats, the northern most point of Scotland before getting the ferry to the Islands. Crossing the Pentland Firth you have the chance to see puffins, seals, gannets, porpoise and maybe even the occasional whale along the way.

On your way back to the ferry in the evening there will be a stop at the Italian Chapel which was built by Italians POW’s with only the most basic tools.  Materials for decorations were scavenged where possible. The beauty of the Chapel must be seen to be believed.
